    Details

Continuing rarity found by Anthony F several days ago. Similar to our familiar Black-throated Green, but with black eye patch & black crown against yellow face, and yellow breast. Two white wing bars, black side streaks, white belly. When I arrived I ran into Leo and his friend birder who told me that they saw the bird but it just flew off. This was like the story of my morning today. I missed one train and missed connecting train and so forth and now I was late for the warbler. It didn’t come back for a while. I waited mostly at 265 84th Street but also made several visits to the pine tree at 229. Eventually I saw it briefly when other birder spotted the bird at 264. It was briefly in the pine but flew off quickly. I saw some yellow, wing bars and white belly. Then another long absence. When I finally decided to give up further search for better looks, I saw Anthony coming along with his dog. So I decided to stay around and walked with him for one last round. We still didn’t see any activity at 264, so we walked down to the pine tree at 299. As we arrived I spotted a warbler in lower section. And it was the Townsend’s! In my previous checks with the tree I didn’t see any activities. It was as if Anthony brought me good luck. We had very goog look of the bird in the Lowe part of the pine. It eventually flew off across the street. I still couldn’t take any photo of the fast moving warbler, but I was happy having very satisfying views of it.
