While scoping a small group of Common Goldeneyes (~09:05) from the Shoop Park parking area, I (Eric) noticed a much darker sided goldeneye with a white crescent/teardrop shaped spot behind its dark relatively short bill. Steep slope of forehead to bill (approaching ~120 degrees) versus a shallower slope of a Common Goldeneye (which approaches ~170). The steeper forehead forhead to bill angle gave it a forward leaning peaked appearance. The adjacent COGOs with the their peak above eye/crown. White below. Black back. Wings mostly black with a row of white spots along sides, bordered by black beneath the white spots. (Versus the mostly white sides of a COGO with their narrow 'fingers' of black.) Black spur extending in front of wing towards waterline. The sunlight revealed a hint of purplish sheen to the head feathers. Back of head had shaggy mane appearance. Swimming/feeding/diving with ~8 Common Goldeneyes and Bufflehead. ~800 feet distance. We viewed with scopes between 20-60X for ~25 minutes. We began our walk down along the shoreline and towards the lighthouse, however, we were unable to relocate the BAGO nor at noon when we returned to the area. Video still through scope:
