Following up on a WSO Hotline report, I went to this site and found the Phainopepla in dense shrubbery within about 15 minutes. The bird was very gleaming black overall, with dull reddish eye, crest, and with prominent white wing patches when in flight. Given its rarity, I observed the bird carefully for another 20 minutes before I had to get back to work!

Are you submitting a complete checklist of the birds you were able to identify?
