Comments:
Success in viewing the reported possible Black-chinned Sparrow found by Mark Saywer this afternoon. I didn't do much other birding, just tried to study this unfamiliar sparrow.

Flock flying over toward the west.

Several hundred had lined themselves up along the electrical wires over the hay field just to the north of Babel Slough, and could be seen coming and going from there.

Large, tight flocks were flying over.

Juvenile. Very small, dull gray sparrow with patterned brown back and wings, darker brown upper tail. Crown was slightly darker. Upper mandible gray but lower mandible grayish pink. Legs gray. The bird hopped confidingly at the roadside and was flushed multiple times by passing vehicles up into the nearby trees, but kept returning to the roadside. See photo:
