Least Grebe

Located by refuge staff, successfully bred. observed 1 adult and two chicks this date. Small grebe, dark charcoal gray, golden eye, white under tail. Small dark needle like bill. Much smaller than near by Pied-billed grebes. Chicks closely associate, smaller, hint of a stripped face, turning dark gray.

small empidonax, very greenish gray, pretty bold eye ring, a bit thicker in the back. longish wing extension, bright underneath, yellowish but not like Yellow-bellied. made some "peet" notes that compared well to recordings on Audubon Birds iPhone app for Alder Flycatcher.
