An obvious Buteo, required some study to eliminate other species. It appeared as large as a Red-tailed Hawk with light tail, however it showed a distinct band at the upper section with a gray trailing edge. As shown in Sibly's guide, it appeared to be a dark adult female, with a white window at the base of the primaries. It was molting with missing secondary feathers on the right wing.
