Comments:
Winter survey, excluding Youth Camping Area because youths were camping! Most winter birds still in place and subtle indications of migration with influx of warblers. La Sagra''s is in its 39th day. Had a Louisiana Waterthrush near Pond 3 but visual not good enough for list. Not unusual timing, as they are on territory near our NW NC home by March 25.
Species
27 species total
21
Common Ground-Dove

Continuing doing well in the park.

1
Mourning Dove
1
Common Gallinule

Has to be "Goofiest Sighting of the Season!" All 5 "ponds" are dried up and bird was strolling down Nature Trail near La Sagra's spot. A runner flushed it and it flew straight at me, then veered toward "Pond" 3. It flew very gracefully.

3
Brown Pelican
1
Great Egret
4

5

1
Osprey
3
Red-bellied Woodpecker
1
American Kestrel

1
La Sagra's Flycatcher

Bird that I found 14 January continues in same general area. It usually begins calling between 8:30 and 9 AM and gradually works its way south. It still seems comfortable, eating lizards and stopper fruit. Park still plans prescribed burn in that area.
