I walked the beach to the SE end (about 2.5 miles) and back. That's where the black skimmers were today, but the 2 royal terns found by Ian Pepper and others yesterday were not there. In fact, I saw zero terns the whole walk. The other highlight was no fewer than FIVE lesser black-backed gulls.

  3. Number observed: 0

Comments: I was amazed not to see any, as it's early for them all to be gone.

  4. Number observed: 235

Comments: Most at SE end of beach in one big flock. Many juvs. Did not see any dunlins with them.

  5. Number observed: 3

Comments: These peeps (the only peeps) with the sanderling flock all had long droopy bills; one still had reddish scaps.

Comments: All adults. At first I thought 5: 2 at first point half a mile down the beach (to the right from parking lot) and 3 more at SE end. But in comparing notes with Ian Pepper, I concluded that my first two had flown to the end of the beach and joined the other bird there. (Neither of us saw those 2 at the first point on our respective walks back.)
