Comments: Both birds seen at about the same time on opposite sides of the vessel. Both seen in good light at a distance of over 100 meters. Both birds were practically identical in appearance. A small, slender jaeger with a thin bill, three pale outer primary shafts and a dark trailing edge to the upperwing, limited white flash in the underwing. Photos of single bird show the first individual; photos of bird with Sabine's Gull show the second one.

Comments: All seen in flight showing unmistakable upperwing pattern with pale gray mantle, black triangle on the outer wing and white triangle formed by trailing edge.

  5. Number observed: 80

Comments: First a flock of nine was seen sitting on the water and then taking flight. For a while we saw a few more scattered birds and then a large flock consisting of several dozen birds. It was not possible to scrutinize every single birds but there were no apparent different birds. All bird we looked at closely and examined in photos had the bulkier look, longer head projection, larger bill of Common rather than Arctic Tern and lacked the razor thin black border on the underwing of Arctic Tern.
