Driving south on Route 6, I spotted several soaring raptors overhead and pulled off at Arrowhead Road (opposite Montano's) to observe them through binoculars. The location is less than a mile southeast from the site of the Pilgrim Heights Hawk Watch.

Observations

  2. Number observed: 1

Comments: Raptor in buoyant soaring flight, wings and tail long and narrow compared to buteos seen at same time; plumage uniformly dusky with no white highlights; head and bill projection not prominent; wing molt and duskier flight feathers in photo indicate probable sub-adult bird; photo shown to Don Manchester, who judged it likely one of two MIKIs seen from hawk watch shortly after noon.
