Comments: Very late individual found earlier in the afternoon by Andrew Baldelli & Jason Strickland (typical departure here is 15 Apr, with the most recent record this season occurring way back on 3 Apr at Back Bay NWR). Present on the flooded impoundment southwest of the Whitehurst gravel parking lot & maintenance garage area. Size much smaller than nearby Mallard (see photo comparison below), peaked crown unlike that of dabbling species, steep forehead feeding into bill, white patch immediately behind bill, white eye arcs readily visible, lighter flanks than back. Only the second May record I can find in eBird for Virginia Beach, with the other also being here at Whitehurst, in 2018.
