This was a multi-site effort to observe and count Rusty Blackbirds. Linda and Meliss were on the Partridge Islands, their report is here: Bob Murphy joined on railbed to see the Rusties and do a blackbird count.

  22. blackbird sp.

    Number observed: 210

Comments: Staging on Partridge Island trees and the railbed island trees. Most were confirmed or likely RUBL as I could hear singing at both locations. Linda and Meliss were closer to the Partridge birds, and were able to confirm Rusty. Since we weren't close enough to get certain totals of Rusty, we are marking them all as "blackbird sp."

    Blackbird notes:

6:43 16 RUBL singing on 6th green tree and 4 singing on railbed.
6:48 21 RUBL at Partridge (only the ones we could see from the railbed).
6:57 32 RUBL at Partridge and 18 blackbirds fly to railbed island (likely RUBL, I hear RUBL singing on railbed island).
6:59 42 RUBL at Partridge and 7 blackbirds on railbed island (likley RUBL, I hear RUBL singing).
7:01 120 RUBL at Partridge and 70 on railbed island (likely RUBL, still hear RUBL singing).
7:04 120 RUBL at Partridge and 90 on railbed island (likely RUBL).
7:09 80 RUBL at Partridge and 120 on railbed island.
7:13 50 RUBL at Partridge and 120 on railbed island.
7:25-7:35 Nearly all the blackbirds on railbed island fly to E. Way. At least two flights are large (60+ birds).

  23. passerine sp.

    Number observed: 750

Comments: A cylinder shaped swirl of birds very high up and distant. Bob's and my count estimate was 1,000. Tree Swallows or blackbirds.
