Then two birds were in the grass near the berm, that separates the field from the water area. This is a smaller bird that any of the other sparrow in the area, easily seen fine streaking on the crown, some what gray over all with no streaking on the breast or belly. The wing feathers (tertials and Coverts) all have a clean white edging. The small bill also helps me to make this Identification.
