Five heard calling at our first stop with the Cinnamon-tailed Sparrows and another three in the dry forest surrounding the quarry watering hole. Multiple individuals were heard calling unsolicited at the first place and at least one at the latter location; the rest were heard in response to playback. After using playback, we were able to draw in two close birds, but only one permitted a vieled view after it called at very close range. We were shortly able to find the bird perched about 1 m up near the base of a 45 degree angled tree trunk

Vocal and active shortly after sunrise (6:45 - ~7:10), with very few vocalizations thereafter. Most birds (~10) were at this location: 16.592760, -94.841524 (both in a 'hedgerow' within the agricultural field and in the dense thicket of low, thorn scrub. The primary vocalization was the complex series of quick, jumbled notes.

At least three birds came into bathe at the larger cattail pond (both tan-striped and white-striped individuals... age or sex-related differences?)

It was difficult to discern exactly how many individuals came into the two ponds over the course of the morning, as it was impossible to know if birds returned for secondary visits. Many visits appeared to be of birds taking baths and we would later witness the arrival of apparently dry birds, suggesting large turnover. Only a few female-type birds were seen away from the water and, of these, only one was sufficiently far away (~850 m) that it's presence was very likely unrelated to water. This water source must be sucking in birds from a large radius. Three adult males were seen at once and we estimated that females outnumbered males by at least 3:1 (probably more like 4-5:1). Many photos taken and DFL recorded a variety of calls (contact, flight, and chip notes).

Seemed to be outnumbered by Rosita's/Rose-bellied Buntings, but this could just betray our fixation on the other the range-restricted species.
