With another birder, scoured the protected and public beaches for the Piping Plover, unsuccessfully. The last reported sighting of the plover on ebird is from Jennifer DiStefano on Sunday December 9 at 10:30 am. Pictures of the plover were posted on Facebook by Susan Bychowski, apparently taken at 10:30 am on Sunday December 9. The plover looks healthy in the pictures, with no ice on its legs or its body. Elizabeth Pector reports seeing the plover at 4:00 pm on Sunday December 9 and has pictures posted on Facebook. Terry Walsh searched for the plover early on Monday December 10, without success. If the Piping Plover is gone, he may have left sometime after Sunday December 9 in the afternoon and seems to have been gone by the early hours of Monday December 10, 2018. Wishing this little champ safe travels to a warm and welcoming place; deeply grateful for the joy he/she brought me and so many other birders since October. Maybe we'll see you again in the spring?
