2 adults, 4 1st cycle birds.

4

all adults or near adults. Hard to get a count. 4 is the most I saw at once but I think it was actually 6-7. Birds were coming in and out from the dump all the time. Light was so bad that at a distance their mantle color didn't stand out as clearly from CAGU as they would usually but at some angles the mantle color was still obvious. Brilliant yellow legs actually almost worked better, clearly brighter than those of the CAGU which largely looked grayish not yellow due to the poor light/distance/crap air quality. One was the sub-adult Ive seen at FBWMA with extensive black on the bill. Structure and small tertial crescents separated them from SBGU.

First-cycle. All black bill, dingy, cream-colored overall appearance with folded primaries the same color as the body. Chunky overall shape larger than nearby Herring Gulls with a larger black bill and noticeable secondary skirt. Messy appearance unlike First-cycle THGU. Pretty standard GWGU. Mostly mixed with other gulls and very distant so my photos of it look like a cream-colored blob

Herring x Glaucous-winged Gull (hybrid)

Classic HEGUxGWGU. Abnormally small HEGU-like head and neck on an overly large body. All black bill. Secondary skirt. Primaries seemed almost the same color as the body at some angles but clearly a shade or two darker than the body at others. Open and shut GWx HEGU. Ive seen a number of them in WA state and in western AK.

Continuing. In the exact area Max told me he had seen them previously. Popped up in front of AA and I as we were walking out. First alerted by call which is similar to BRBL but different enough to be noticeable. Female with rusty crown, clear yellow eyes, rusty tertial fringes. and gray body. Took off almost immediately so my photos are all of its butt in flight
