Comments: Wonderfully covert in its initial flight. After sunset, one flew very low over a canal and then shot up 15 feet to a dead tree branch. During its initial flight, I was tucked behind a thicket; it may have never flown nearby had it seen me earlier. After it perched, I walked down the grass for a bit closer look.

  10. Number observed: 1

Comments: Heading south away from marsh, toward Market Street complex entrance.

  16. Number observed: 3
  17. Number observed: 7
  18. Number observed: 1
  19. passerine sp.

    Number observed: 1

Comments: No option to report as "owl species." Heard a bark from grassy and sparsely treed area in response to a few screech owl calls, at near dark. I almost never use playback, but tried a few calls in a last effort to keep the GHOW nearby. The bark came from behind me, the opposite end of where the GHOW perched. Two nights ago, I heard two barks near a small pond lined with trees and thickets when it was dark. Wish I had the audio recorder rolling.
