I scanned the pond and looked across the grassland and vineyards for birds. Large numbers of American Robins and Western Bluebirds, and lesser numbers of Yellow-dumped Warblers and Cedar Waxwings, were attracted to unharvested grapes, while the pond held a nice diversity of waterfowl. Conditions were fair, being very hazy from distant wildfires. Temps were in the 40s, there was no breeze, and the sky was clear and sunny (aside from the haze). I spent quite a while trying to record birds, but distant noise made it difficult.

Observations

  1. Number observed: 5

Comments: Obvious swans. Four young birds (pink bills) and one adult (black bill). I didn’t have a scope so I can’t definitely say that they were not Trumpeter Swans, but the bill shape of the adult was suggestive of Tundra. Bill coloration and shape of the adult, and neck curvature incorrect for Mute Swans.
