A warbler with dull green back, darker wings (with white at base primaries).
Dirty off-white/green below and on throat. Dark face patch highlighted above (supercillium) and below by same color as underparts. Light undertail coverts. From afar I thought I might be looking at a Tennessee. Hard clear loud call note. Foraged low in shady understory.
EDIT: views from here: 34.4194, -119.6341. Thebird was first viewed at 0930 and then a second time briefly at 1015. Both times the bird was low in understory and mostly in the shade. At 0930 the bird was directly below me as it foraged low in the veg below and closest to the tracks (south side of). At 1015 the bird was spotted in the yard directly across from me (to the south) from tracks. During this observation the bird dropped to the ground briefly below the deck in the yard and was also seen looking low in the the oak here (new growth low on trunk).
