Sunny, 63 degrees, winds W 9 mph. Started out walking slowly into the riparian area, ran into a nice flock about 1/2 way down with loads of birds (no rarities), fast moving, working upstream, and soon out of sight. If I'd been any earlier or later, it might have seemed "dead" in there. Wound up the visit with a slow walk up Bev Cunha's Country Road, mostly Yellow-rumped in the fennel, but a surprise Lazuli Bunting (rare for October) capped off a nice birdy time at the plant today.

Getting late (a rare bird in SMC for October), small finch-like bird, female or immature, grayish / dull pink cone shaped bill, warm grayish brown above, whitish wing bars, gorgeous blue tinged coloring readily apparent in tail (seen in excellent light), tawny wash on the breast, whitish below. All of this had me thinking Indigo, but obvious whitish wingbars (not buff) and lack of streaking on chest, point to Lazuli instead of Indigo. Lost it before I could obtain a photo.
