a single bird perched at observation deck -- was able to get within 20 feet. clearly Thayer type. Brown streaking on head (eagle like lo ok) extending down, dark eye, darker pink legs, yellow green bill with dark tip, the/dark gray wing tips clear on flight.
Compared to the often confused Herring gull. This bird had the darker eye common to Thayer over Herring. this bird had a green/yellow bill while not a always true distinction -- the Herring usually has a stronger yellow. This bird had the darker pink legs than those of the herring. At 20 feet with binoculars observed a faint pink gape compared tot he normal yellow of herring.
