    Comments: Probably japonicus. Cl;early much browner above on head and back than American, with bolder, well defined bright wingbars. No strealking on upperparts. Underside whitish, less buff than American, with bold black malar and breast streaking. Streaking reached fore flacks but mostly lacking on rear flanks. Legs dark. This is OK for japonicus but generally it's preferrred that birds in CA show all classic features.

    Comments: Extensively bright yellow on throat and breast with heavy blurry streaking on sides of breast and flanks. White belly and vent and most of undertail. Dark wings with two bold white wingbars. Brown lores and ear coverts. Obvious yellow supercilium. Brownish back. Did not right angle of view to see pale braces.

    Comments: brown above with pale supercilium and dark eye-line. No obvious wingbars. Dirty white below with bright yellow vent. Wagged tail continuously.
