Long-tailed Jaeger

The following marks for juvenile Long-tailed Jaeger are visible in the photos:
1. Gray tones.
2. Two-toned upper wings.
3. Two pale primary shafts on P10 and P9
4. Structure - weight forward, with more breast than belly, very little head projection, and an extended "back end."
5. Stubby bill.
6. and perhaps most convincing, the scaly looking mantle and upper wing coverts as the result of bars of pale-edged feathers (a feature not normally shown by young PAJAs).

jaeger sp.

Noted shearwatering distant dark birds with wing flash, chasing terns and each other, too far to identify to species.

8
Bonaparte's Gull
1
Little Gull

Juvenile flying back and forth, fairly close, right in front of us in the large Sterna Tern flock. Boldly marked black and white markings somewhat similar to a juvenile Black-legged Kittiwake, with a bold black carpal bar and a black tail band. Unlike a Kittiwake, this bird was tiny (slightly smaller than the common Terns it was flying with), had black on the mantle (indicating a juv), had a black crown, and had a black trailing edge on the secondaries.
