Wind W 5-10 kts; swell W 2–3 ft. at 8–10 secs; SST 73.0–75.9 F. Overcast until mid afternoon, then mostly sunny, air temp 75–80 F. Dave Povey, Paul Lehman, Guy McCaskie, Jimmy McMorran, Tom Blackman, Matthew Binns, Nancy Christensen, and Bruce Rideout observers, along with 53 passengers, on a 12-hour pelagic birding trip in San Diego County waters.

    Comments: Small alcid, blackish above, white below, black hood extending to chin, dark underwings, tail often cocked. Photos should be available.

    Number observed: 2

    Comments: Small alcid, blackish above, white below, seen in flight but too distant for definitive identification.

    Comments: Medium-sized dark storm-petrel with variable white rump patch longer than it was wide, sometimes with darker center stripe, notched tail, long relatively narrow angular wings, and bounding erratic flight. Some leaders and participants will upload photos.

    Comments: A single bird seen briefly by those at the front of the boat; completely dark overall, forked tail with a completely dark rump, lacking the white edges that the previous Leach's had shown. Flying erratically like typical Leach's. 1 of 2 dark-rumped Leach's seen during the day, at least from the bow.
