1
Sanderling
1
Spotted Sandpiper

Observed this bird, at very close range, survive an attack by a Merlin. When the Merlin approached after seeing the Spotted Sandpiper take flight, the sandpiper landed on the water (!) and then submerged himself at the last moment (!!). The Merlin moved on, the sandpiper reemerged after a few seconds, then took flight.

Saw this Caspian Tern standing in the shallow pond at the point, and got several pics before it flew off.

Sharp-shinned Hawk

Merlin

Watched one or two Merlins fly from the jack pine woods to the point several times. On two occasions there was a pair of birds who would chase each other for a minute or so. On another occasion, a solitary bird that had been perched in the pond area took flight when the Spotted Sandpiper I had been watching flew out over the water on the north side of the point. The Merlin came in very low and almost caught the Spotted Sandpiper, which escaped in a surprising way (see details under Spotted Sandpiper).
