there was a bait school from the elephant seal lookout extending to the docks ¼ mile away to the west and close to shore. the bait was on the surface and numerous species were just scooping it up, no diving necessary so the gulls were able to capitalize. This is a conservative number as there was closer to 2000 birds total feeding.
