Comments:
Most of the birds were seen in Hayward Marsh while doing the last of the Colonial Bird Count. Many shorebirds were on the small amount of exposed mudflat later in the afternoon.

Take the trail from the Interpretive Center out to the bay. It was seen about 2/3 of the way towards the San Mateo Bridge, in line with the second light standard over water. The tide was high and incoming. Only a small amount of mudflat was exposed.

A large dark alcid. The only other birds were 2 scaup which were larger. Also had a fairly large bill and a short, thick neck.
