Seen at roughly at 200 yards using a Swaroski HD 80mm using a 20-60X. Medium sized duck, there were 2 MALL 100 ft away from this duck. This duck was dark brown slightly rusty. Little to n contrast between back/wings and sides. Head was the same color with a broad white band around the bill. The head had a noticeable peak at the rear of the top of the head. Bill appeared to have a darker tip. We are very familiar with both the GRSC and LESC during migration and wintering in Kansas and have seen the frequently. Was not a BWTE because the white was not crescent shaped, the head had a prominent peak, no contrast between back/wings and sides. Eliminated female RNDU because the white at basw of bill smaller less well defined, this duck had a very broad and well defined white around bill. RNDU show a white eye ring that was not evident. The RNDU female also has a contrast between upper head and sides and throat area where this duck had uniformly dark head except for the broad white band around bill.

Repeatedly diving on a GBHE, including a strike or two. The GBHE was standing on a sandbar or leg. The GBHE stood his ground for at least 6-8 attacks. The CATE took a wide circle out over the marsh, the GBHE had had enough and made his great escape. Nature is such a kick.

Tried counting heard birds, this is clearly an underestimate.
