Buena Vista Audubon/San Diego Pelagics 12 hour pelagic birding trip. Leaders Dave Povey, Todd McGrath, Gary Nunn, Matthew Binns, and Bruce Rideout, along with 38 trip participants. Partly cloudy early, then clearing, wind NW 10 – 15 kts, swell W 5 – 9 ft. at 9 sec intervals. Ship-following gull counts are maximum number observed during a single scan for each hourly count period.

    Comments: Medium-sized dark storm-petrel with mostly dark rump, sometimes with small white edges, notched tail, long relatively narrow angular wings, and bounding erratic flight. Some leaders and participants may upload photos.

    Comments: Medium-sized dark storm-petrel with bright white rump patch wrapping around to underside, long relatively narrow angular wings, and bounding erratic flight. This bird was slightly smaller, darker, and shorter tailed than white-rumped subspecies of Leach’s. Photos will be uploaded.
