Male 1st spotted by Tom Millard. Then we noted female. Pair hunting together in the West Pool
among a variety of other sandpipers but mostly near the Semi-palmateds. Photos taken by nearby birder Patrick McGill who took photos through his scop . Female had black face, white throat & chestnut colored neck. Male had black cheek, white throat & dark crown & was much paler than female. Both had narrow, short, straight bills almost as long as their heads were wide. Overall slender, they fed on the water surface as they turned in circles. Viewed through scopes at 30X. Too far out to photograph with just an iPhone. Not found on 2nd trip around after 5:30 p.m.
