Went straight to the beach to look for the Laughing Gull (not found). Counted any hedge birds as I walked to the beach, but did not really bird that area at all. Heavy rain while on the beach. Almost left my camera in the car because of the rain, but tucked it into my jacket -- was happy to have it, as I needed to take photos of the Wilson's Phalarope on the beach to confirm ID.

Male. Small wading bird in the shallower part of the 'lake' on the public beach. New to shorebirds (and any phalarope would be a lifer), this bird initially confused me, because it was not 'spinning' as I had read about previously. But the long thin needlelike bill, long legs, slender neck, and delicate features, pointed towards Phalarope. I was not sure which species of phalarope until I got back to my car and could consult with more experienced birders. And later at home, reconfirmed in my guide books.
