As usual, I birded both causeways crossing the lake north-south (the toll and free roads). However, I also birded the shore just south of a school found at the western entrance to San Agustín del Pulque. This was because the lake to the west of the toll road causeway is mostly dry, and is very shallow between the two causeways; so I looked for deeper waters in the eastern half of the lake. This site was only somewhat productive, but that may be because it was past noon at that point. Weather was sunny and rather warm. I should mention that we've had an unusual amount of rain for the past two weeks, so the drying trend may soon end.

Comments: Don't blame me for this one! Even though I had noted the upswept bills on my photos, I still went with the predictable Long-billed Dowitcher in my original list for this outing. It was Mexico's birder extraordinaire Amy McAndrews who looked at my photo and told me 1) they were Godwits, and 2) they didn't look Marbled. So I went back to my photos and reworked them to get the best possible images. Note: Barring on flanks or individual bird, Strong dark/light pattern on face of bird facing camera, and the hints of reddish coloring on the breast of bird on right.

Comments: Could be Leasts, but the bill shape and leg color seem to indicate Westerns.

Comments: Could well have been more. Many females in reproductive plumage. This was my first spring sighting of this species.
