One seen in SW portion of lake from South Shore Campground. It was a big contrast to bigger and darker common loons also present in that area. Saw a number of common loons also, but this one was much smaller, lighter in color with white speckled back, sharp line between black and white on neck with most of the dark to the rear; upturned beak small. I was away from car so I retrieved camera and then decided to get closer by going downhill to shore. I spent 20 minutes scanning area, sweeping back and forth about 12 times and never found it again.
