Comments: In old South Fork parking area at the start of the trail on the NW side of the trail. We had several observations at close range. The bird was foraging in the oaks. Field marks observed included black throat from lower mandible through upper breast; distinct black streaks on white background under wings from black throat patch down sides to flanks; yellow face bordered by black throat and olive crown (not black crown); plain, unstreaked olive back; dull olive eye-line and ear patch (not black nor as boldly patterned as Townsend’s with which we are quite familiar with as westerners); two bold white wing bars on dark wings; white outer tail feathers; breast and belly white (from bottom of black throat patch to vent – no yellow on breast).
