On south beach sand bar, west end of Dauphin Island. With Miss Coast Audubon Society field trip being led by Andrew Haffendon, a very experienced birder who made the identification. The 2 birds were in different locations on the beach. One had been spotted in the area for several days. The very large size compared to the nearby laughing gullls and ring billed gulls was immediately noticeable. These were 1st or 2nd winter birds, I think.
