Two tall white heron type birds at edge of sanctuary pond: long heavy bills, all white plumage with blackish legs and feet, and long individual plumes hanging down from their backs.

423

Exact count one by one as they approached land after crossing Lake Erie, apparently straight across the western basin from approx direction of Pelee Island! Light west wind, around 1° C. Who knows how many already crossed before I noticed the stream! Quite a few of them I was first spotting when they were like 5+ km offshore, no doubt crossing the lake. Large slow-flapping black birds of prey with tiny heads, gliding pretty often with dihedral wings.
