conservative estimate; continuous stream of higher-altitude migrants was flying from south to north as far as the eye could see on a trajectory directly above the lake and it appeared as if their path led them there but instead of landing, they were continuing on farther north; easily counted 25 skeins of ~100 out of car side window which tallied about 1/4 of the birds in the air and extrapolated that to be ~10,000 in the sky; in addition there were 2 massive rafts on the lake that contained at least that many again and possibly many many more
