Comments:
With friend. Part of day 1 of 3 day trip to Outer Banks. Arrived at Cape Hatteras campground at 1:00am and went to bed at 2:30am. My notes don't show that I had any birds at that time so I am not including that time here. Awoke at 6:30. Birded from northernmost parking lot south to Cape Point. Includes Buxton Woods Trail, the campground, south ponds/parking area and the east end of the Salt Pond.

Weather - Humid, clear, light SW breeze, 77F at 2am. Partly cloudy/hazy, 80F at 10am. 87F at 1:30pm, SE breeze. Turning cloudy/hazy, still humid.

Also - Some terns at the point had silver bands on their legs.

Mammals - Raccoon, 5.

Amphibians/Reptiles - Squirrel Treefrog, 2. Cottonmouth, 1. Yellow-bellied Turtle, 20. turtle sp., 3.

Butterflies - Palamedes Swallowtail, 20+. Black Swallowtail, 1. Giant Swallowtail, 1. Black/Palamedes, 12. Hardly any of the swallowtails landed so I can only guess at the numbers. Only a few Palamedes were definitively ID'd. The others were probable. Variegated Fritillary, 3. Least Skipper, 4.

Dragonflies - dragonfly sp., yes (One with slaty blue body, clear wings, dark brown tips, black stigma. Was there some black at the base of the wings? Can't remember). (Another one with white face, grayish (?) head, grayish body, white sides and clear wings). E. Pondhawk, 18+. Halloween Pennant, 2. red dragonfly sp., 1. Black Saddlebags, 2.
