Species
7 species total
16
Mallard
1
Killdeer
300
Ring-billed Gull

estimated from our vantage point - likely many more

1
Double-crested Cormorant

surprised to see it fly overhead - all black bird with longer neck than tail and cormorant proportions (the favored cormorant roost trees that were visible had eagles parked on them instead of cormorants)

58
Bald Eagle

adults and immatures were peppered across the ice and flying back and forth on the half of the lake we viewed so twice that many could potentially be present

2
Long-eared Owl

despite our best efforts at stealth they flushed from same roost trees where several have wintered annually since at least 2013; glimpsed only 2 owls but there appears to be 3 heavily white-washed perch spots in 3 side-by-side cedar trees of dense stand; collected ~30 pellets for Jenny Jo Johnson's homeschool group who dissected ~20 of them on April 24 and found "most had voles. Two had shrews. And there was one bird" (photo of legs below).
