(Seen at one time around the basin; flagged for count.)

(Seen around 8:45 across from the Coney Island spit when many birds got up off the water. Picked it up among gulls over the creek mouth; expected a hawk, but long wings with round tips, dark patches at tips and wrist, body almost funnel shaped with large head and flattened face with dark eye spots. Passed over the creek and I lost it as it flew lower by the western tip of the park; thought it might have landed, as the habitat would be inviting, but no sign of it in the area and a couple of loose hunting dogs were prowling around without flushing it, so probably continued north along the waterfront. First record for site.)
