Winter Wren

Seen low on opposite riverbank from the west side of the river about 50m north of the Hwy 90 bridge. Tiny wren with very tiny cocked rusty tail and pale supercillium. No strong rufous overtones noted to throat or breast.

One large sparrow seen briefly with White-crowns low in scrubby mesquite along path from San Pedro House that goes directly to the river, about 3/4 of the way to the river. Seen from about 4m for about 20 seconds with sun to my back. Larger than white-crowns in same shrub, much larger then Songs, dark gray back with rusty wings and tail. No pattern on face. Big dark smudgy streaks on pale breast. Sharp loud call.

Louisiana Waterthrush

Many recent reports of two LOWA with broadening white supercillium, side to side bouncing rear end and leaf flipping at edge of river. Saw both together in Bacharis within one foot of one another. Both very agitated; calling and partial songs. Seen just barely on the north side of the Hwy 90 bridge over the river. Photo.
