  5. Number observed: 4

Comments: Please refer to photos. All four birds were seen well at reasonably close range under good light, and two were photographed. Each was on its own, not with other birds. Flight pattern was swift and active, in circling or erratic course, but tending southward.

  6. Number observed: 228

Comments: Encountered two large flocks of 70+ birds, plus smaller groups and singletons.

  7. Procellariid sp.

    Number observed: 2

Comments: The first bird was initially thought to possibly be a dark morph Herald Petrel, but photos show a dark morph Wedge-tailed Shearwater (long, slender beak; smallish head; long, thin tail).

Another bird looked like Juan Fernandez — grey dorsum with black W and a dark eye patch -- but photo shows its underwing had a thick black carpal patch indicating Hawaiian P (see photo below). Awaiting more photos of this bird.
