Aroostook Birders outing and "goose lunch" at the town park at the Prestile Stream dam. Weather quite lovely- 60's, with light breeze. Foliage peaking and we had a nice assortment of shorebirds and waterfowl to keep us occupied as we ate and chatted.

Rare in northern Maine. First impression was that these were Stilt Sandpipers. Birds first cycle. These were larger peeps with overall grayish coloration. Primaries black extending past tail. Most prominent feature was long, slightly downcurved bill. Dark gray crown and light supercilium. Dark lores. One bird had a smudge of brownish gray on the cheek. Legs not visible as they fed in deeper water.
