Found by Alec Olivier. Very skulky bird, I had a few furtive looks, before getting a few of definitive looks at the bird through binoculars. My three main observations of the bird perched were first at 10 feet and 25 feet the 2nd two times seen. Seen in flight several times as well. In flight the bird was a weak flyer, reminiscent of a LESP flying, but darker colored, with some pale strips on a dark grayish back. Rather short-tailed looking in flight. Description of the bird when perched- I had two really good looks at the head and breast. Small sparrow, somewhat flat-headed, but more similar to a LESP rather than a GRSP or HESP in structure. Gray central crown stripe, with two dark brownish-black lateral stripes at either side. Bold orange-colored supercillum, and malar, orange color wrapped around the bottom and a touch behind the gray auricular patch. The auricular patch was uniform gray and had a dark post-ocular line at rear of auriculars. This orange color contrasted with the unstreaked gray nape of the bird, similar in color to the auricular patch. Paler throat contrasted with orange face and breast. The breast was an orange color similar but somewhat duller than the color found on the face, with dark streaking that was overlaid the orange color. Both the orange feathering and dark streaking abruptly stopped at the top of the belly. Some yellower tones and dark streaking along the sides of the breast and flanks. Brownish color on wing coverts. It called several times, a very weak "tsip" note, not unlike a LESP. Bird was seen in tall grass lining the small ditch that runs out of Shiras Pool.
4th county record, 3rd for Presque Isle Park (previous 2002, 2008). The 3rd County record was from Big Bay lighthouse in 2013.
