Juvenile seen from the SW corner of Mt. Trashmore. Seen through a spotting scope over the bay chasing the only 3 Elegant Terns seen today. A jaeger (species unknown) was reported to the staff at the Interpretive center recently but I have no idea if both records are of the same bird.

From a distance the pale nape was obvious. When it got much closer it looked almost golden in color. The central tail feathers were pointed not rounded. Also the bird did not look as bulky as a Pomarine Jaeger.

They used to be seen more often and even nested here in the 1980's and early 1990's. I have seen only 3 since Oct. 31, 2011.
