seen across the road from west side park, where the gravel road penetrates the prairie like habitat. Frequented the coyote bush and some larger leafy plants. I saw the distinct tail pattern while driving, so I stopped and pulled out my binoculars. The bird was a first winter with black stripes on the sides and a gray face, otherwise mostly yellow below and gray green above.

Fist year male, flew over our heads into the willows in front of owl canyon and began to call. Had huge white wing patches. A photo was taken by Tim K. which I have added here. The photo shows the red "armpits" and light rose breast color.
