Comments:
The Great Eclipse of 2017Great Eclipse of 2017. Arrived just before dawn, temp approx. 42 degrees. Observed bird behavior to be normal until well past 1/2 coverage of the eclipse. As it got closer to full the larger birds White Pelicans, Ibis, Geese, ducks flew back in the opposite direction they had travelled earlier. Swallows went high in the sky and most unusual was a mixed kettle of 4 Osprey, 2 Swainson's Hawks, 1 Turkey Vulture and 2 Ravens circling above the parking lot. As the eclipse went full, it was like a light switch being flipped and a sudden drop in temperature. Following totality fewer birds resumed normal pattern. Sparrows less active but also mid-day at that point.
