Other than the orioles and towhee, it was mostly by ear. Flushed night-heron out of cattails. Walked about 1.5- 2 miles. South from campground.

I mistook the bird for a vireo yesterday. But the facial pattern and both yellow andcgray areas matched chat. Was skulking low in bush and made no calls. A yelow-throared vireo would act more boldly in nesting area.
