Fairly large passerine with a very long tail. It was gray on the upperparts and much paler, nearly white on the underparts. The tail and wings were nearly black when perched. In flight , white outer edges to the tail and white patches on the upperwing were striking. The greater coverts were fairly widely tipped with white which formed a distinct wing bar. The second wing bar, formed by smaller white tips on the median coverts, was less distinct and broken.
The bill was short and black and the legs were black. Due to very cloudy conditions and poor lighting, I did not discern the color of the iris.
Viewed from as close as 30 feet using 10X42 binoculars. The weather was cloudy, temperature of 40 degrees (F), and since the bird was below the bluff, the strong winds were not a factor in my observation.
