In the huge mass of birds on the shoal off east tip of pelican island. Huge gull. Bigger than numerous nearby HEGU. Immature. All black bill. Gray salt-and pepper back. Pale/white head chest breast.

Seen three different times in about 30 to 40 min. May have been multiple birds but receded as 1. Immature. Entire head and upper breast brown with sharp line transition to much paler lower breast and belly. Pale belly was clearly speckled. Underwings also speckled. Cruising very low over waves.
